Q: What makes an idea “dangerous”?
All ideas are potentially dangerous..that’s what makes them so exciting. Each one changes our world a little bit, with the best ones changing our world in unexpected ways. Unexpected can be dangerous, but it also makes life exciting.
Q: Which technological or scientific advancement excites you most?
I don’t rank advancement. Anything that surprises me about the universe excites me.
Q: Which social or political movement scares you most?
Religious fundamentalism often terrifies me.
Q: What’s the one thing you wish society better understood?
The nature of uncertainty, and the fact that it is ok not to have all the answers.
Q: Will the defining catastrophe of the next decade be natural or man-made?
I don’t make predictions about the future..at least not ones I trust.
Q: What question have you been dying to ask someone (and who)?
I usually get to ask the questions I am dying to ask… but I guess I would be amused to ask Obama if he really believes in God.
Q: What question have you been dying for someone to ask you?
Where did you get those great glasses?
Q: If you could outsource one part of your life, what would it be?
Q: What’s your favourite book and why?
Catch 22.. It captured much of the absurdity of life beautifully.. It also taught me the power of juxtaposition in literature and in communication in general.
