Does Terry Gilliam still ask you to bring something back when you go on one of your trips?
What’s the strangest or silliest thing someone has asked you to get for them when you went overseas and they couldn’t go with you?

  2. Jayme Akstein on said:

As a Brazilian Python fan now living in Australia, I would like to ask which connections you find between them, and maybe some differences.

  3. Jayme Akstein on said:

Michael Palin, I read and loved your diaries. I was astonished at how much you have done. Therefore, this double question:
Name something (or somethings…) you would like to not have done, or maybe done differently.
Name something (or somethings…) you would like to have done.
    Thanks!

Where, in your travels, was the most unlikely place that you were recognised?

  5. Jayme Akstein on said:

Please be sincere… what do you think of the Human Being? Any hope?

  6. Jayme Akstein on said:

John Cleese was here some months ago… you are now in DownUnder… are the Pythons planning something here…? Maybe sing the Bruce’s Song in Wollongong?

  7. Jayme Akstein on said:

Michael Palin, you are worldly famous as being the best person on Earth, the uncle we all wanted to have, the nicest Python, the best travelling companion.
Terry Jones has stated that the only time he sees you grumpy is when you are hungry. How can we make you mad at us?

  8. Ian Stuart on said:

What is the correct pronunciation….pahrlin or paylin?

  9. Andy Maxey on said:

    Hello Michael,

I have a couple of questions about your travel adventures. Having experienced so much, do things still surprise you whilst traveling?

And where do you go and what do you do for holidays?

Can’t wait to see the new series,

    Thank you

    Andy

  10. Jayme Akstein on said:

Can you tell us about other projects the Pythons had but were abandoned?
In similar vein, which other stories you had for “Ripping Yarns”?

  11. Heather on said:

    Hi there. My question is….

Michael has seen first-hand a wider range of cultures than most other living people. Which culture (either country or just group) did he feel most at home with and felt to him the ‘optimal’ way to live/be?

    Cheers

    Heather

    1. If you were only allowed to visit one last country, before you fall off the perch, what would it be?
    2. In what country, either with or without a production support crew, did you feel most threatened in terms of safety?

  13. James Hartwright on said:

Do you believe comedy has changed since the heady days of Python?

  14. James Hartwright on said:

In your travels have you found that there are things that are universally (or at least globally) funny – e.g. slapstick?

  15. Ali Mohammadi on said:

What are some places that you haven’t seen but really like to?

  16. Philip Williams on said:

I’ve been told that your friend Robert Hewison was the person who originally encouraged you to write when you were at Oxford together.

I’d like you to know that Robert was my best friend way before that when we both lived at Weybridge, Surrey in the 50′s: he was seven and I was eight..

  17. Toni Knight on said:

    Hi Michael
Thanks for being cheaper than Cleese, yet just as entertaining. I guess he does have an expensive divorce to pay off.

    I was wondering…

Do you still write or perform comedy? Do you have any plans to do so in the future?

  18. Claire Ellis on said:

    Hi Michael,
If you could choose 5 people alive or dead to have dinner with, who would that be?
    Thanks, Claire xxx

  19. Thank you for sharing your comedy genius with us. When I watch you in character you bring a smile to my face because you seem to be having so much fun but there is also intelligence behind it. It’s inspiring. What source, if any, do you draw upon for your characters? Is it experience, trial and error, method, someone you’ve known or that you haven’t taken you medication for that day? PS I love Ripping Yarns

Describe one memory that sums up your life.

  21. Steve Russell on said:

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your novel ‘Hemingway’s Chair’ a few years ago. Do you plan to write any more fictional books?

In all your wide travels throughout the world have you ever stopped in a Ca…Ca…Ca…Cath…Cathc…Cathcart Hotel?

  22. Angela Guildford on said:

With all the wonderful things you have done and experienced…at what time of your life were you most happy, and why?

My friends and I are huge fans of yours, and all have just finished our first years out of high school. One of the big Aussie traditions for school-leavers is to take a traveling gap-year after our final exams and explore the world. Are there any places you can recommend as absolute-must see’s for first time travellers?

  25. Steve Corbett on said:

Michael, you have already travelled to all the corners of the globe, which is strange because a globe by its very nature cannot have corners. Where will your next adventure be: under sea, in space or perhaps ‘around London’s bus system in 80 days’? Also, what species of fish were used in the Fish-Slapping Dance?

  26. Happy Ho on said:

if Heaven and God existed and you were walking through the Pearly Gates, what would like GOD to say to you?

  27. Happy Ho on said:

I always wondered if you ever caught up again with Mayumi, your first Japanese fan, who charmingly sent you a letter saying, “Hello, I’m Mayumi, and I’m a girl” and you replied, “hello, I am a boy” – I laughed out loud when I saw that in your “Full Circle DVD”. In your interview at the end of the DVD you mentioned that you hadn’t heard back from her – were you able to track her down since?- warmest regards, “Happy” – your other number one Asian fan, and by the way I am also a girl :-)

  28. You are one of the world’s most revered and insightful travellers, would you or have you considered
travelling as one with the elements in the aesthetically poetic mode of human flight namely skydiving?

  29. I think that your (and the other Pythons) biggest contribution to Western culture was the transformation and expansion of comedy from a relatively polite telling of “mother-in-law” style jokes to a no holds barred, anything goes arena.
Which Python sketch did you think was the most creative and why?

  30. Yvette Maurice on said:

What do you think of Julie Gillard’s misogyny speech the other week? Do you think that Australia is full of chavanist pigs? What is the difference between European and Aussie men?

  31. Debbi on said:

As a world traveller you have seen some highs and lows. How do you view these and are you engaged in ways to make changes, for example child sponsorship, ‘live aid’ charities etc?

  32. David Broadfield on said:

Just how much fun was it hitting John Cleese in the face furing the Fish Slapping Dance?

  33. ROB NOBLE on said:

Thanks for entertaining, thrilling and educating us for decades. Looking back, are you more proud of your comedic legacy, or your travelling/writing/TV achievements?

  34. Anne Whitehead on said:

Were you annoyed that News of the World didn’t consider you interesting enough to tap your phone? What fascinating things did they miss out on hearing ?

  35. Geoffrey Benn on said:

Why do you think it is it that the same joke is taken differently in different places around the world? In other words would the Norwegian Blue fall flat on its face the moment you get it home, everywhere around the world?

  36. João Francisco on said:

Mr. Pali, as you know, Portugal has a great history, filled with adventure due tou it’s XV and XVI century Discoveries. Would’nt you like to mak a series walking all the places, from Portugal, Africa, India and Brasil, finding places rich of historical monuments and colture? Because we found and gave a New World to the World… we, Portugal, one of the smallest coutrys in Europe. Dont’t you feel curious?
